The monthly budget
Assigning every dollar a job, the month-by-month rhythm.
The three columns
Every category row shows three numbers:
- Assigned — the dollars you committed to the category this month. Editable; press Enter or click away to save.
- Activity — the sum of transactions in this category this month. Outflows are negative; inflows show as positive.
- Available —
carry-in + assigned + activity. Green when funded, gray at zero, red when overspent.
Ready to Assign
The hero at the top of Budget shows the dollars that have entered an on-budget account but haven't been given a job yet. Common sources: an uncategorized paycheck, a refund, or money you carried into a new month with no plan.
When Ready to Assign is positive, you have decisions to make. When it's zero, every dollar is accounted for. When it's red, you assigned more than you have — back out somewhere.
Quick actions
The three-dots menu on each category offers the same shortcuts:
- Last month's spending — assign whatever you actually spent here last month.
- Average over N months — assign the running average of the last three months.
- Goal target — assign exactly what the goal needs this month.
